The Week of August 22nd

Hey Ya’ll,

Colorful ColoradoSo for the next week all you readers are in for a special treat. I’ll be gone from Denver, but I’ll be documenting my Colorado Mountain West roadtrip! I’ll make sure to fill you in on fun activities to do, great places to stay and eat all while passing through much of Colorado’s mountain towns, like Aspen, Crested Butte, Pagosa Springs, Telluride, and Buena Vista. But since I’ll be out of touch with Denver for the next week or so, I figured it would be nice to mention some of the fascinating events going on while I’ll be gone.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge

USA Pro Cycling Challenge

Now that the Tour de France is over its time for the next best thing: USA Pro Cycling Challenge comes to the Rockies this August, and its finish line party is right in the heart of Denver! After a grueling 518 mile, 7 day journey through the rugged Colorado Rockies, 128 of the world’s greatest riders will cross the finish line on Broadway; right in front of the State Capital. Revel in the cycling sport and relax with riders at the finish line festival. Featuring live music, good food, the latest cycling gear and a full fledged beer garden this stage is sure to be the best of the race. Make sure to get there on time as the winner of this seven day ride will be crowned in the Mile High City. The race starts in Salida and ends on Sunday August 28 at Civic Center Park in Denver. For more information on the race please visit their website at www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com.

The Denver Croquet Festival presents Through Hoops to Hope, which will be held on Wednesdays from August 24 – September 21 at Republic Plaza. The Festival will be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness of the disease of dementia and increase the quality of life for those suffering with the disease. If you’re interested, there are 3 ways to play in the festival. You and a partner can enter as a team of two and play on specified Wednesdays, you can reserve the court for an hour, or you can simply swing by for free play. Courts can be reserved between 1 – 4 p.m. while open play is from 1 – 5 p.m. No experience is necessary, so swing by Downtown and bring some friends to have a laugh and hit some balls.

If you don’t have a bike, see this as an opportunity to utilize your local B-cycle station! Feel free to dress the part, each week there is a new theme for the riders (this week’s is Angels & Devils). Although the aim of the Cruisers is to have fun, make sure to ride safe.
